Giulio Taglialatela, PhD,

Giulio Taglialatela, PhD, is Vice President of Brain Health at The University of Texas Medical Branch and Director of the Moody Brain Health Institute (MBHI). He is the Lawrence J. Del Papa Distinguished Chair in Neurodegenerative Disease Research and a tenured professor in the Department of Neurology. As the inaugural director of MBHI, he oversees all clinical and basic neuroscience research at UTMB, advancing an integrated vision for brain health that spans discovery science, translational innovation, and clinical impact.

In 2022, he was named the founding Director of the UTMB Brain Health Institute, and in 2024 he was appointed Vice President of Brain Health. Later that year, the Moody Foundation and Moody Research Institute announced a transformative $25 million commitment to fund and name the Moody Brain Health Institute, accelerating UTMB’s strategic investment in neuroscience research and brain health innovation.

Dr. Taglialatela has maintained continuous NIH funding for more than three decades and currently leads multiple NIA R01 grants. His research focuses on the molecular neurobiology of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders, cognitive resilience with an emphasis on mechanisms driving disease progression and therapeutic development. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, delivered invited lectures nationally and internationally, and served on numerous grant review panels, including as Chair of the NIH Clinical Neuroscience & Neurodegeneration Study Section.
